FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DECATUR, GA, April 14, 2016– Hundreds of runners and walkers will lace up their sneakers to help raise awareness of domestic violence, as well as the resources available to help survivors, victims and their families. GCADV’s 2nd Annual Race for Empowerment will take place Sunday, May 1 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Race sponsors include Genpact, Peachtree Junk Removal, Nelson Mullins, Farmers Insurance Hathaway Agency, Asics and Phidippides.

Runners and walkers of all ages will run the course through scenic Piedmont Park—rain or shine.

The morning begins with a 1K Fun Run for children at 8:00 a.m. The 5K starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. At 9:30 a.m., awards will be given out for Overall Male and Female, Masters Male and Female, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for various age groups. The race is Peachtree certified.

The Race for Empowerment 5K benefits the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV). The mission of GCADV is to collaborate, advocate, educate and empower. For more than 35 years, GCADV has given voice to the issue of domestic violence across the entire state of Georgia. GCADV empowers survivors and the programs that serves them, educates the public and advocates for responsive public policy.

“We are looking forward to our second Race for Empowerment. This 5K helps to support GCADV’s work to end domestic violence in Georgia,” said Jan Christiansen, Executive Director of GCADV. “Come run, walk or volunteer with us to show your support of our work on this important issue. Participating will be fun and impactful at the same time!”

More than 100 runners and walkers participated in our inaugural race in 2015. This year, we are expecting to double that number, including the participation of over a dozen teams.

Participants may register individually either in advance online or in-person on race day. Online pre-registration for an individual is $25 until April 16. Registration between April 17 and April 28 will be $30. Teams of two to five may register for $100 through April 28 and children may register for the Fun Run for $15.
