Economic Justice

Economic Justice & Domestic Violence

Economic justice is the idea that the economy will be more successful if it is fairer. The goal is to create opportunities for all to succeed regardless of sex, race, age, disability, color, creed, national origin, religion, or genetic information. The main principles of economic justice include universal basic income, income equality by gender and race, and equal opportunity for employment and credit, and allowing all to reach their full potential (Investopedia).

99% percent of victims of domestic violence experience financial abuse from their partner (Adams). This abuse makes survivors reliant on their abusers and decreases their ability to achieve financial stability. Our economic justice programs aim to address this problem by working to:

  • Educate and train victim advocates on topics related to money management, credit building, and issues of financial abuse, to help build their capacity to assist survivors as they move toward long-term security.
  • Provide grants and small business resources to entrepreneurial survivors through our Don’t Knock the Hustle program, helping them build economic self-sufficiency after leaving an abuser.
