These are just a few of the ways the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV) works to carry out its mission. But we could not do this work without the financial support of allies like you.

This Thursday, December 6, we ask you to help us on this mission by giving to GCADV as a part of Georgia Gives Day. You can visit GCADV’s giving page by clicking HERE.

Georgia Gives Day is a 24-hour, statewide giving event with the purpose of bringing the state together as one community, to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Georgia nonprofits. Visit http://gagivesday.org for more information.

100% of your donation will go directly to GCADV to help us continue to serve as Georgia’s only statewide advocacy organization working to address domestic violence. No gift is too small, and all gifts are tax-deductible.

Thank you for your support!

Sadly, Georgia was ranked 6th highest in the nation for its rate of men killing women in 2011 and in 43% of domestic violence cases, children were present. This bleak statistic is why partnerships like this are crucial for GCADV to unite individual victims with domestic violence programs to create a seamless transition towards safety and stability. GCADV advocates on the state and federal levels for responsive public policy, foster quality comprehensive prevention and intervention services, we train and support member programs, and enthusiastically embark on significant partnerships with community organizations and businesses to end domestic violence and its impact to families, in Georgia. This cannot be done without financial support. As a part of GCADV’s efforts to raise funds and increase organizational awareness, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Ms. Anna Balkan, an Atlanta based jeweler who will donate a portion of her profits to aid victims of domestic violence in Georgia.

On Saturday, September 22nd Anna Balkan Jewelry will celebrate the anniversary of their opening and raise awareness of domestic violence and its support of GCADV. Anna Balkan designs showcase unique color combinations and each piece makes a remarkable fashion statement.

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is one of the most effective pieces of legislation enacted to end domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, serving as the backbone of our nation’s response to these crimes. VAWA revolutionized the way violent crimes against women are prosecuted and prevented, reshaped the way victims receive services, and transformed the way communities respond to survivors.

Since VAWA was first passed in 1994:

Domestic violence reporting has increased over 50%.

Intimate partner homicides have decreased by 34% for women and 57% for men.

VAWA saved $12.6 billion in its first 5 years alone.

So why does the House want to take away protections that are vital to victims?

Over the past several months, members of Congress from both parties have waged a dismaying battle over provisions in VAWA regarding protections for members of the LGBTQ, immigrant, and Native American communities. We must not allow political arguments to erode the advancements our country has made toward that goal in the eighteen years since VAWA became law. You can learn more here: http://gcadv.org/what-we-do/public-policy/

Today, you can help us stop the backslide!

Please consider making a small monetary contribution to support Nicole and Allison as they travel to Washington, D.C. June 4-6 to represent the interests of victims of domestic violence.

ATLANTA – Nationally and locally, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is working to address violence against women and encouraging all members to break the culture of silence surrounding this issue. In metro Atlanta, the Douglas Carroll Paulding Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc has awarded $7,500 to the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV) to support the organization’s tireless work to end domestic violence and increase awareness amongst minorities. This event and donation presentation will occur, Friday, June 1, 2012, at 6 PM, at the Downtown Douglasville Conference Center.

For the past 30 years, GCADV has been Georgia’s leading representative of domestic violence agencies, advocates, allied individuals and survivors throughout the state. GCADV brings together member agencies, allied organizations and supportive individuals who are committed to ending domestic violence. GCADV leads advocacy efforts for responsive public policy and promotes quality, comprehensive prevention and intervention services throughout the state. “GCADV is truly honored to receive this donation,” said Nicole Lesser, executive director of GCADV. “We’re especially excited that this donation was made in connection with the 1st Annual Regal Awards, which will emphasize the critical work of organizations in metro Atlanta communities. In 2011, Georgia was named 6th in the nation for its rate of men killing women and 108 women were killed due to domestic violence. “To provide needed trainings, continue to advocate and create systems change for all victims, we are hopeful to work with the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta continually and ensure that this donation will be used to wisely,” said Lesser.

“The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc are proud to support the tireless work done by GCADV, and we are thankful that this donation is possible to further train advocates and assist where needed to end domestic violence in Georgia,” said Sharon Jones, awards committee member.

For the past 30 years, the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV) has been Georgia’s leading representative of domestic violence agencies, advocates, allied individuals and survivors throughout the state. GCADV is committed to bringing together member agencies, allied organizations and supportive individuals who are committed to ending domestic violence.

Additionally, GCADV leads advocacy efforts for responsive public policy and fosters quality, comprehensive prevention and intervention services throughout the state.

Each year more than 100 Georgians lose their lives to domestic violence. Additionally, in 2011, Georgia went from being the10th to 6th highest in the nation for its rate of men killing women. We cannot accept this ranking nor can we continue to allow the casualty count of victims rise. To overcome these disheartening statistics, GCADV has positioned itself to do more and we need your support to do it. This year, GCADV is committed to expanding its reach by providing more resources for our member programs, having a heightened presence on policy that impacts victims, and generating an increased awareness amongst teens.

For the first time in our 30 year history, we have adopted an agency-wide fund development plan to ensure our programs and services are not only accessible and effective but sustainable. As a part of these efforts we have been granted the opportunity to fundraise through the 2012 Peachtree Road Race. The AJC Peachtree Road Race has distinguished itself as one of the premier Fourth of July traditions in Atlanta. With your donation, the impact of our work in public policy increased training opportunities for domestic violence advocates and overall domestic violence awareness through state-wide media campaigns will mobilize our mission to ensure safety for victims and survivors. Please support GCADV with a donation today by clicking the link below!
