Join us as we come together with hundreds of fellow Georgians from across the state to raise our collective voice against domestic and sexual violence!

Stop Violence Against Women Day is an annual event held at the Georgia State Capitol at which advocates, survivors, and allies come together to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence against women and to advocate for laws and policies that enhance safety and promote justice for survivors.

This event gives attendees an opportunity to get connected with each other and with the larger movement against violence against women. It also gives them an opportunity to foster relationships with their legislators in order to inform them of how domestic and sexual violence is impacting the lives of their constituents and their communities.

Stop Violence Against Women Day begins at the Georgia State University Student Center-House and Senate Salon, where attendees will enjoy breakfast and an educational briefing on key policy issues affecting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Following the briefing, we will move to the Capitol where attendees will be able to meet one-on-one with their legislators. The event will wrap up with a rally in the Capitol Rotunda.

Metro Atlanta Domestic Violence Organizations Unite to Honor Victims, Survivors During 12th Annual “Silent No More” Candlelight Vigil Oct. 24

ATLANTA – Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV), Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV), Securus House and International Women’s House have joined together to host the 12th Annual “Silent No More” Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Free and open to the public, the vigil will take place at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will honor the women, men and families who have been silenced by their batterers as well as those who have broken their silence to take a stance against domestic violence.

Typically hosted by PADV alone, this marks the first time domestic violence programs in metro Atlanta have come together for this annual event. “By working together, we hope to raise a greater awareness in our community about this silent epidemic. Together we can raise a collective voice that calls for an end to domestic violence,” said Meagan Fulmer, president and CEO of PADV.

Metro Atlanta residents are invited to join this inspirational evening featuring stories from domestic violence survivors, a live performance by recording artist and radio host Darlene McCoy courtesy of Praise 102.5, light refreshments and the candlelight vigil.

Guests are encouraged to bring unused cell phones to donate to HopeLine®, Verizon’s national recycling program that collects no-longer-used wireless devices and accessories – from any carrier, in any condition –to be refurbished and recycled and/or sold with all proceeds benefitting victims of domestic violence.

The 12th Annual “Silent No More” Candlelight Vigil counts on the support of community partners Judicial Correction Services and The Office of the Fulton County Solicitor General Victim Services, as well as the sponsorship of Verizon Wireless and Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard.

“Despite the best efforts of PADV and the District Attorney’s Office, domestic violence remains a serious problem,” said Howard. “According to the most recent Domestic Violence Fatality Review, approximately 9% of the total number of domestic violence related deaths inGeorgiaoccurred inFultonCounty. Countless other victims suffer in silence every day. It is my sincere hope that our collaborative efforts will give voice to their struggle, educate, empower, raise awareness, and ultimately eradicate this vicious cycle of abuse.”

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the first Day of Unity observed in October 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The purpose is to celebrate survivors, remember and honor those killed as a result of domestic violence, and to connect communities working to eliminate the issue of intimate partner violence. Since then, community support and prevention programs have come together during the month of October to host similar events.

Reservations for the event are strongly encouraged. Free event registration is available online at http://padv.org/candlelight-vigil.

Her pieces have been sold in over 250 international locations and been worn by such recognizable stars as model Janice Dickinson and cast members of both All My Children and One Life to Live. “GCADV is doing such important work to give all victims of domestic violence a voice. Banding together in these efforts excites me. A portion of my profits will aid women through support freedom and hope,” say Anna Balkan.

Donations allow GCADV to further collaborate with government agencies and community allies to create prevention efforts and advocate for laws to protect mothers and children. Donations encourage best practice education and training for domestic violence advocates and work with the media to change attitudes to stop domestic violence in Georgia, once and for all. Anna Balkan gets our mission and understands how businesses like hers can benefit victims in Georgia. We appreciate Anna Balkan Jewelry!
