Current Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers provide an integral service to many of the programs at GCADV.  Ideal volunteers have passion for working to reduce domestic violence and other forms of oppression in our society.  They are reliable, flexible and survivor-centered.  Generally, volunteers are asked to perform tasks at the GCADV office during weekday office hours.  However, some assignments may be more flexible, so please inquire if you are able to work outside of traditional office hours.  We welcome anyone to apply for a volunteer position, especially survivors, people of color, Deaf individuals and people with disabilities.

Forsyth County Family Haven: Youth Advocate

Job Title:  Youth Advocate

Accountability:  Shelter Manager

Position Overview: Responsible for coordinating and providing services to children, teens, and parents on a residential and outreach basis; developing and implementing prevention programs for youth.

 Responsibilities:

  • Complete intakes, assessments, service plans, & progression of services needed/received for child / teen clients & their parents.
  • Provide quality services to child / teen witnesses & victims of domestic violence, including but not limited to, individual counseling, group counseling, & safety planning.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information
  • Provide age appropriate orientation to shelter for residential child/teen clients; assist parent & child to normalize routines and activities
  • Assist parents in learning & applying effective discipline techniques
  • Offer dv education to youth on an individual & group basis
  • Facilitate weekly residential client meetings for youth (as applicable)
  • Network with other agencies to provide assistance for child/teen clients.
  • Maintain children’s files and complete monthly (minimum) reviews
  •              Complete monthly statistics and narratives with client success stories for grant   reports.
  • Update the youth services manual (as needed)
  • Serve as the liaison for local schools & youth organizations
  • Participate in applicable internal & external meetings
  • Assist with public awareness activities& provide presentations as requested
  • Participate in the on-call rotation as scheduled
  • Attend conferences and workshops as designated

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology particularly Child Psychology or Social Sciences
  • Knowledge of developmental stages of children
  • Minimum 2 years working with victims of domestic violence
  • Dedication and commitment to victims/survivors of domestic violence; ability to deliver quality client services and to work with client population; ability to demonstrate sensitivity and empathy; ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to utilize multi-tasking skills and attend to detail; ability to handle stressful, crisis situations; ability to utilize sound judgment and problem solving skills; ability to work in a team environment; ability to instill a positive, productive work environment.

Forsyth County Family Haven

Job Title: Shelter Manager – Full-time

Accountability: Director of Programs     

Position Overview:

This is a full-time on call position with flexible hours that includes nights and weekends. Shelter Manager is to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and assistance to victims of domestic violence. Supervise program staff. Assist in case management and housing operations when appropriate. Must be organized, self-motivated and a team player.

Needs to be familiar with community social services and use them to help victims become independent. Ideally, the manager will form liaisons with other agencies, developing strong working relationships.

In addition, must know how to create documents, memos, spreadsheets and use database software. At times, the position may require trainings and presentations to staff and educational presentations to the community. Because of this, the manager should know how to use presentation software and must present information clearly and effectively.

Must pass a background check and take a TB (tuberculosis) test before employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the needs of domestic violence victims are met by connecting clients with services or supervising those who do
    • Schedule staff and support groups
    • Assist in developing and maintaining program long and short term goals
    • Assist in developing policies and procedures regulating daily program operations
    • Conflict resolution
    • Maintaining professional boundaries
    • Monitoring database to insure accuracy, timeliness and completeness
    • Submitting funding reports as needed
    • Serve as liaison for community resources and partners
    • Participate in stakeholders meetings

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Case Management & C
  • Minimum two years working with victims of domestic violence
  • Experience in supervision of front-line staff
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, administer and evaluate programs
  • Experience in budget management, grant compliance and reporting
  • Experience in group facilitation

VP of Programs at PADV

Vice President of Programs: Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) in Atlanta, GA seeks highly motivated program professional to serve as VP of Programs. Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Programs is responsible for oversight of PADV programs and services including; program management; program development and design; and program evaluation. Additionally, this position is responsible for the supervision and/or direction of a program staff of approximately 20 employees.

A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and a minimum of five years of progressive experience in a senior leadership position are required. Additional qualifications include: excellent verbal and written skills; superior project and human resource management experience; budget development; self-direction; creative thinking; successful experience working in a team environment; and a keen ability to work effectively with volunteers;

Job Description

Group facilitators will provide FVIP and Anger Management facilitation services to ongoing FVIP groups at locations and times specified by Families First.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate weekly intervention groups utilizing the established curriculum and techniques
  • Appropriately confront acts of domestic and other counterproductive behavior(s)
  • Elicit self-disclosure to enhance self-exploration
  • Recognize and process denial and minimization and other defense mechanisms
  • Identify cultural and social contexts for family violence, and personal beliefs which lead to violent choices
  • Model appropriate boundary setting, confrontation, refraining, paraphrasing, reflection and clarification
  • Identify and eliminate collusion or complicity and intra-group conflicts for individual and group growth
  • Identify, confront and provide dialogue about ethno-cultural and lifestyle biases
  • Appropriately address how domestic violence effects children as victims and children who witness domestic violence
  • Teach and model problem-solving skills and non-violent behavior options
  • Establish rapport and understanding in a respectful manner so as to build trust, reduce resistance and elicit the necessary feedback to gauge understanding of intervention information imparted
  • Complete required documentation including but not limited to group progress notes, quarterly treatment plan reviews and updates, termination summaries, monthly letters to the court, parole officers, attorneys or other referral sources for each client

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or two years of equivalent documented experience involving direct contact work with batterers; and this work must have included contact with victims advocates or victims
  • GCFV registration & approval
  • 84 hours of direct face-to-face contact facilitating, co-facilitating or participation as a trainee in male batterers groups using the power and control model
  • Participation in 40 hours of training on coordinated community response to domestic violence
  • Completion of 20 hours of victim-centered training approved by GCFV and completion of 20 hours of general training approved by GCFV
  • Completion of 4 hours of riding-along with local law enforcement, 4 hours of court attendance during domestic violence cases or four hours with probation officers meeting with family violence probationers of any combination of these
